RACE INFORMATION:

RACE DATE: July 18, 2009 (Saturday)

LOCATION: Liberty Lake, WA (Spokane area)

TIME: Races start at 9:00 am

START: Molter Rd. and Inlet Dr. (LLVHA beachfront)

FINISH: Pavillion Park in Liberty Lake

ENTRY FEE: $ 30.00

IMPORTANT NOTICE: All youth competitors are required to purchase an annual racing license with USA Triathlon to compete in USAT sanctioned races. Please purchase this license before you come to packet pick up and bring your membership number with you. Licenses can be purchased at any time in 2009.

AGE GROUPS: for this years Valley Kids Triathlon age groups will be 7-8, 9-10, 11-12, and 13-15 years for both boys and girls. Your racing age is your age as of December 31, 2009. Approximate distances for the events will be:

7-8 years swim 40 yd. 2 mile bike .6 mile run 11:15 am

9-10 years swim 80 yd. 3 mile bike .6 mile run 10:30 am

11-12 years swim 150 yd. 4 mile bike .6 mile run 9:45 am

13-15 years swim 150 yd. 5 mile bike .6 mile run 9:00 am

Distances may vary somewhat according to our courses. Noodles will be available for the younger age groups and floatation devices are allowed for the 7-8 year old age group.

Goodie Bags and T-Shirts and will be provided for all participants. Medals will be awarded 3-deep in each age group.

REGISTRATION: We will be limited to 250 youth and registration will be open at www.signmeup.com (click here) on April 15th, 2009. Check for brochures soon at Fitness Fanatics or local sport stores in our area.

RACE DAY "Step #2"
Show up at the Liberty Lake Homeowners Assn. beach front starting at 8:00 am on Saturday, July 18th. Please arrive about 30 min. before your age group start time (see above) and look for the age group marked area to place your bike. Places are first come, first serve.
Make sure bike frame numbers are attached on the front handlebar area of the bike. All bikes should have frame numbers attached.
Timing chips will be assigned and handed out the morning of the race. Bib numbers will be marked on the upper arm and calf on the morning of the race.
Bring your helmet! HELMETS ARE REQUIRED TO RACE.

"Commonly Asked Question":

Q: Will my child be able to touch bottom on the swim? And are there enough volunteers to ensure my child's safety in the water section?

A: 1) The swim portion travels lengthwise across the the beach/swim area. In the younger age groups (7-8, 9-10) the taller children should be able to touch the bottom most of the way but shorter children may not be able to. This is not a water run, the children will be required to swim/kick a short distance. Please have your child use a floatation device if you are not comfortable with this scenario. The older age groups (11-12, 13-15) will be required to swim and have a course that goes out a few more yards but is still in the safety of the roped swim area. 2) We have several lifeguards and many volunteers out in the water with noodles for the children to grab if necessary. We also have an EMT/Doctor on the beach to assist if necessary. Please make sure your child is comfortable in the water and has some elementary swimming skills prior to the event.

Q: Will my child need to purchase a USAT license?

A: Yes! As of January 1, 2006 there will no longer be any one-day licenses available for youth competitors. All athletes 17 and under will be required to hold an annual license. This membership will cost only $5.00 and will be good for 12 months! These fees will not be built in to the race entry fees and must be purchased separately. Athletes that sign up online will not be required to have a parent sign any USAT waiver forms at the event, only show the membership card they receive in the mail.
